Environment & Sustainability

Sustainable development to protect the environment

The environment and sustainability have played a vital role in all that we do since the opening of the Park. Behind the scenes we continue our efforts to protect the environment and promote sustainability in the countless building projects we realise every year. HANSA-PARK has already been recognised for its environmental efforts in 2002 when Studien- und Fördergesellschaft der Schleswig-Holsteinischen Wirtschaft, a business association for promoting regional business, awarded HANSA-PARK the “Environmentally-friendly Business” prize. With the installation of a photovoltaic plant, a waste heat recovery system and an energy-efficient compressed-air supply system that is fitted with heat exchangers, the Park has reached a new level in its efforts to combine economy and ecology. Since the 2012 season we have been saving about 600,000 kg of CO2 annually.

Here are some more examples of the measures we implemented over the past years:

  • Changeover to LED energy-saving bulbs
  • Separate waste separation system at our recycling station
  • Reduction of noise emissions, e.g. “Escape of Novgorod”
  • Installation of “green roofs”, e.g. the “Midgard Serpent”
  • No use of pesticides to kill weeds
  • We predominantly use rainwater to water plants and for the water rides
  • Efficient logistics processes in the Park using electric vehicles
  • Hygiene-certified electric hand dryers instead of paper towels in the Park’s washrooms
  • Use of plastic cutlery stopped
  • 10 electric charging points specifically installed for our guests’ electric vehicles
  • Homepage www.hansapark.de run on 100% renewable energy
  • Planting of a variety of perennials and trees throughout the Park
